I blocked someone today on Facebook. It's pretty rare that I do that. But the thing is
I'm working on living an authentic life. I talk about authenticity all the time. I talk
about respecting boundaries, keeping the negativity at bay, surrounding ourselves with
the people who love us as we are.
Yet when it came to actually answering "Are you sure you want to block John Doe?"
I hesitated.
The part of me that was raised to be non-confrontational felt a twinge. Oh, they will be
mad or I might hurt their feelings. Let me tell you that is some deeply engrained guilt
training but let's be clear this was someone who has never showed an ounce of respect
or understanding as to who I am or what I stand for.
So this recovering people-pleaser took a quick walk by the creek to make sure I wasn't
in a reactive state, then took a few deep breaths, pulled up my big girl pants and hit "yes".
My only regret was there wasn't an option for "HELL yes!".
