I Am a Soft Place to Land
Most of you know, or perhaps have guessed, that I pretty much always start my day down at the creek. I was there this morning, between raindrops, moving some ferns around in the woods.
Clarity often comes when my hands are in the dirt.
This thought actually came last night while talking to a friend but today it returned like a lightning bolt.
"I am a soft place to land."
Okay, that might not feel like a lightening bolt to you but for me it is a profound message. Yes I am a soft place to land. I've always known that. It is one of the reasons my Airbnb guests often linger at my house to chat. Then they wander over to the creek and there they sit, perhaps to dip their toes in the water or to put their hands in the dirt for clarity.
However, I am not a soft place to land when I am not in a soft place for myself. In the past, when I got out of balance being everyone else's "soft place" it depleted me and I didn't feel soft. I felt exhausted, hard and pulled in.
In the past...................... but not any more.
Now I make it a priority to start my day nurturing myself, hands in the dirt. It talks to me, as does the water, the tree, the fern, the rock, the dragonfly, the cardinal, the hawk, the chipmunk and the moss.
I know there are many soft people out there in the world like me. Many of you are on this page and you too suffer being soft for so many others at the expense of yourself. So, make this promise to yourself, today, as I am to myself. Change the way you talk to yourself about this.
Be soft.
Be open.
It is part of what makes you so incredibly glorious.
But, whether you are entering a new relationship or are in an existing one, no matter if they are a friend, a lover, a boss or a family member make sure this statement rings true for you:
"I am a soft place to land, and so are you."
