Each morning when I go out for a walk I like to bring back (or take a photo of) what I see
(or hear) and find out it's name. Who left this? What kind of bird? What is the name of that mushroom? Which tree dropped this beautiful leaf?
When I learn the name of a plant, a bird, an animal or a particular type of moss I get to
discover a bit more about it. It's like meeting someone new. Giving a name to something
is a way of knowing it. As a species we are more likely to value that which we can name.
Isolated patches of wild land not destroyed by invasive species and groomed lawns are so valuable and so beautiful to know.
On my walk this morning I made some new friends and revisited some familiar ones.
Good to check in on the neighbors.
And know their names.
Say hello to Lucinda - She is an Orb Weaver who lives on my front porch.
